They will probably opt for keeping and perhaps strengthening mandatory coverage, but will use their talk radio/FOX mouthpieces to convince the voters to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Actually, my hunch is that the GOP'ers in Congress will put forth some legislation that ostensibly will say that it would do away with mandatory coverage, but through their health insurance lobbyist buddies they would secretly assure the health insurance companies that it wouldn't actually go anywhere (wink, wink). That way they could placate the Tea Partiers with a sham and still make sure the health insurance companies get what they want. I suppose that description sort of fits under your characterization of "pay attention to the man behind the curtain". If it happens that way it will be interesting to see if the Tea Partiers are naive enough to not see what has happened. Re: L.A. If Wage and Price controls worked for Nixon, rate control will work for insurance too. The more you mess with it, the worse it gets. Of course, that is the plan all along for national healthcare to swoop down and save the day. It is great that these rate increases are coming before the election. Re: L.A. President Obama used the Anthem / Wellpoint rate hikes repeatedly in the course of pushing for health care reform. They didn't get the 39% they requested in California, they got 14% and 19%. I imagine that hasn't been in the news on the left coast since August. Re: L.A.
