Re: Any Audi fans here? - mrbigstuff - 01-11-2012 Audi seats are great, even better than my Volvo and my Volvo is better than most every other car i've been in. yeah, you don't want to do your own work on an Audi - take a look at that engine bay! Re: Any Audi fans here? - Speedy - 01-11-2012 Get a TDI. You'll never regret going Diesel. http://www.audiusa.com/us/brand/en/exp/innovation/audi_tdi.html Re: Any Audi fans here? - decay - 01-11-2012 what's the expected/typical maintenance on an Audi, year-by-year? MAVIC, do you keep records of yours? Re: Any Audi fans here? - DRR - 01-11-2012 I keep records of my Audi. It's now 8 years old, I've owned it for 4. Despite high repair costs the allroad is the best car I've ever owned. I do most of my own work but parts are still expensive. Last year I put about $800-900 of work into it (excluding oil and other normal maintenance). That is not uncommon and German cars are not as popular as Camrys and Accords so parts are pricey and take longer to get. Next year it'll be at least the same amount. I'm due to replace all 8 control arms and I need to look to see if the steering needs to be repaired, or rebuilt. Rubber doesn't last forever. It wears out. I'm replacing a lot of original parts that made it this far. 8 years for a piece of rubber on a car, is not bad. Repair costs are high but hopefully (knock on wood) I won't need to do a lot of these repairs again for possibly the lifetime of the car. Average over my ownership period, probably about $600 a year. The only electrical problem I've ever had on that car, is a switch had to be replaced. $60, 5 minutes. I've had a Volvo too and the build quality was so much poorer than the Audi it's laughable. I bought it with 8K left on the original factory warranty and ended up taking it in for warranty work 5 times in 6 months. I traded it in. Even with the negative equity I think I came out ahead. YMMV. It was a 2003 S60. You can easily get 6-8 years of worry free use out of a new Audi. I'd get an extended warranty (just make sure you get a good one, check enthusiast websites/forums) to 100K. Past that, you'd better either have a good set of tools and some experience, or a big checkbook. Re: Any Audi fans here? - pinkoos - 01-11-2012 Z wrote: Thanks for all the great replies. By the way, it's funny that you linked that website. A car enthusiast friend of mine actually writes for that site. When I asked him about Audis, he referenced me to this link which he co-wrote: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2011/12/new-or-used-audi-syndrome-2/ Re: Any Audi fans here? - pinkoos - 01-11-2012 wowzer wrote: I think it all goes down to personal preference. I've had Japanese cars for a long time now (Honda Accord, Lexus RX300, Acura TL) as has my wife (Acura Integra and now Acura MDX). I'm just looking for a change now and would love to have something European. As for BMW/Mercedes, I feel the same about them as you do about Audis. Bleh. And, getting an A4 or A5 would definitely not be a step down from a TL. Re: Any Audi fans here? - Z - 01-11-2012 Is it Sajeev or Steve? Re: Any Audi fans here? - pinkoos - 01-11-2012 Z wrote: Sajeev. Have known him for probably more than 30+ years. Re: Any Audi fans here? - wowzer - 01-11-2012 Hmmm...I can understand that. I buy cars to get me from point A to point B. Maintenance and safety are my most important items to consider. Other items include fuel efficiency and style is dead last. pinkoos wrote: I think it all goes down to personal preference.
