Re: Best 50 or 52 inch Panasonic TV - Stavs - 09-07-2012 I cant answer all those questions, but can answer some. I have a 60", so my measurements will mean squat ![]() Not sure about the volume control as I run it through my receiver. As for standard def, it looks fine on the plasma. Its obviously not HD, but the picture is very acceptable. Some of the older shows may look crappy, but they look crappy on a non HD tv as well. If I were you, I would go for the biggest size you can get/afford. If you are struggling between 50 and 55, I would go bigger beccause the regret will always be there. I went from a 50" (got blown out by lightning) to a 60" and am glad I made the jump. I know Amazon Prime was one your needs, and the Pannys have that. The online material on the TV is very good. I would recommend you pair it with a Panny Blu Ray player as well so you can benefit from the HDMI Viera Link which allows you to control both. Re: Best 50 or 52 inch Panasonic TV - lazydays - 09-07-2012 I sent the same questions to panasonic so I hope to hear back soon. I think my biggest concern is the volume control through the DAC. Thinking back, we discussed this in a prior thread, http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1282323,1282338 . So I think I can be assured that I won't have volume control. :-( It is unfortunate that tv's do not have monitor outputs anymore as it worked very well for me. I've been perusing amazon but have not been able to find a reasonably priced DAC with an included remote control. I am not sure how to solve this problem. I appreciate the suggestion of the surround receiver, and I understand your perspective, but I plan to continue using my accuphase amplifier until the day it (or I) die. So I will need to find another solution. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. Re: Best 50 or 52 inch Panasonic TV - GeneL - 09-07-2012 Stavs wrote: :agree: 60 inch! (if you can) Definitely get the Panasonic Blu-ray player (top rated for a lot of reasons, open/close/play...lickety split, for one) Re: Best 50 or 52 inch Panasonic TV - lazydays - 09-07-2012 I measured and I can go from 42 to 55 but 60 would be too large.I would think 42 to 55 would be quite a leap anyway. Re: Best 50 or 52 inch Panasonic TV - LyleH - 09-08-2012 One thing people don't realize is that a few inches diagonally make a large difference in the actual viewing area. This link will take you to a webpage where you can put in any size screen and compare it to another size. It was useful to me when I was comparing my old 35" CRT to my 50" Pana HDTV to be sure I was getting a comparable size. http://www.cavecreations.com/tv2.cgi For example, a 55" HDTV has a 21% larger viewing area than a 50 inch HDTV. Before I bought my first HDTV, a 50" Pana, I cut out a large cardboard box of the size of the viewable screen and placed it where the TV would be located to see how it would look. It looked fine and fit fine. My 50" Pana has a large border around it, and the 55" has a small border. So the PHYSICAL size of the 50" was almost the exact size as the SCREEN size of the 55". So I could easily envision that the 55" would fit okay and could sense that it wouldn't be too big. I considered the 60", but it is just too large to fit in the area it has to go. LyleH |
