Every few weeks or once a month. In the winter it's tough to find a good touchless carwash and I don't like to do it by hand when it's so cold out.

It protects the paint and finish. That means the car can go longer without having to be repainted, and in many cases it increases the resale value. Not sure what you mean by "leave that nasty runoff somewhere it shouldn't be". What's on the car usually comes from where it's driven - the roads. When you wash a car, the runoff usually goes to the same place it'd run off to on the road. It's not like leaving the stuff on the car is somehow better for the environment.

Every 2 - 3 weeks.
Needs one badly. Wifes too. Stuff went missing, wife suspects car wash place, so she hasnt taken it back.
Wash at home now.

I washed it after the snows were gone to get the salt off. Otherwise i just clean the windshield now and again.

My Merc SL - when ever it's dirty (but that is almost never) dust it daily, Spot clean with Detailer after nearly every drive. Wife's Jeep - when ever she complains about it or once a month wither it needs it or not. ;-)

In the summer, I will take the car to a gas station with a drive thru wash, but buy a hot dog and soda to have lunch in. The car is So much cooler after the wash, as the water has absorbed all my black van's sun heat!
