One thing I noticed upon returning later this evening... could have been coincidence. I have a swapped-in SSD in my iMac. It needs that "fan don't run if you install this app" (or whatever it's called). The fan was running after the update so I had to install the update to that app. Fan stopped running immediately. I do believe it says on the front page that it's Yosemite ready. Ok, ok... hold on... here. This one.

Well, I accidentally clicked on the update, so it is downloading now.
I do not see a "stop download" option either.
I guess I can just not install, when it finishes, if I want to wait.

Looks like it was downloading the 10.9.5 update, instead of the 10.10.
I cancelled out and I am now DLing the 10.10
Actually I am going to pause it and do it tomorrow.

And you thought davemchine was out of it!

Yes, it's just as before, you can cancel the install. Make yourself a backup installer before installing: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/10/how-to-make-your-own-bootable-os-x-10-10-yosemite-usb-install-drive/

I used the Terminal instructions, pasted the string in and it worked fine.

I'm fine with Mavericks. But then ever since Leopard I've usually tended to wait to upgrade until there is a compelling reason.

Not yet, I am running a Hackintosh so I am waiting a bit (especially for an iMessage hack)
