Sweden, another place I've been. My best expat friends in Japan are Swedes. They do have a good lifestyle, and I am convinced it's mainly due to being such a homogeneous country, like Norway, Denmark, Japan, etc. My home state, Georgia, has about 2 million more people than Sweden. It's also very controlled and taxed highly, about 67% I think it is. University for all is "free." Good health care, all in all, a nice place, but too many restrictions for my tastes, even though I love living in Japan, which is also controlled a lot. I ain't right boys, ain't right a'tall. I do like that garbage burning though.

I can. That's all not true. We stayed there for a few weeks in 2013. We had a house, planned to buy our own groceries. They were MUCH more expensive than in the US and had much less of a selection, even in July. This was for stores in the city and the suburbs.
And rent was also not less, at least not compared to Seattle.

It's not that much different. Plus, I prefer 31° to 36°.

I'd venture a guess that a few week stay is a significantly different comparison to residency.
We've been there a few times and have friends there, who have also stayed here with us for significant portions of time. It's one of the things we've talked about quite a bit. We stayed in a friend's family home for a while, as well as their apartment in the city.
Clothes are also a lot more expensive there. Our friend comes with very little luggage, and leaves with a lot.
