That base is poison and the only way they're going to get rid of it is the clean bone-jarring break of an election catastrophe. Let those folks form their own nutjob rump party and the rest can go back to old-style Eisenhower Republicanism (not that that was perfect...) and begin to attract the center again. Anything less will almost insure we'll have Trump and his ilk to kick around for a looong time.
