I must say, I'm no longer interested in the extension ladder and I don't care what it thinks of me. Washing the car is my favorite height. That more than anything else can create problems even if one has both feet planted firmly on the ground! Hope your injury doesn't get any worse. Landing on head, neck, upper body is not recommended!! However, don't wear hiking boots on the roof. Wear sneakers. Spent a lot of time on roofs when I worked for a painter as well as replacing more roofs than I care to remember.
