And remember, Walmart takes 3 times the retail dollar Amazon does. Yeah, but do you think WalMart fit those retail segments? I don't know. Walmart had the resources to weather the 2001 and 2008 recessions and the loss of sales to the internet . Re: Amazon..Im not using them any more..Been reading - RAMd®d - 08-29-2018 Service Merchandise Circuit City CompUSA The Good Guys Borders AMZ was responsible for their demise? With the exception of borders, I'd guess that all of those, starting with Service Merchandise, were either gone or already sliding down the drain whirlpool before AMZ was a 'thing'. To be sure, they're responsible for a lot of smaller businesses shuttering, and may some as big as those mentioned. Even though they now collect tax in CA, they'll still hold an advantage in convenience:cost. And do I understand that I'm part of the problem, not the solution. But more and more I have to vote with my Wallet (except for Walmart, my one vestige of humanity and compassion for the Little Guy). Re: Amazon..Im not using them any more..Been reading - RAMd®d - 08-29-2018 And about AMZ and sales tax, haven't they always collected it in states where they had a physical presence, like every other online retailer? I think they let third parties screw with it on purpose because it means people spend more time on the website. It may be something that other places wish they could do, but nobody has done it yet. It looks like they partly fixed my pet peeve in the last couple of weeks but it is still salted with wrong results (512gb usb 3 flash drives). I still occasionally like going to a store and buying something today. They are slowly killing that off. The customer service usually fixes problems in the end, but I would really prefer getting the order right the first time. I have a hard time believing it's really cheaper for them to fix problems after a sale, instead of getting it right the first time. My time is something I value enough to avoid their hassle. Best Buy seems to be the only national chain left where you can go and listen to speakers. vision63 wrote: Fry's had a chance but they blew it, remember this? ![]() Borders (and B&N) were responsible for putting a lot of good bookstores out of business. Re: Amazon..Im not using them any more..Been reading - Carm - 08-29-2018 With regards to taxes, I pay taxes for my purchases on Amazon. Amazon as a whole pays less taxes than it should (loopholes and such, billionaires club) I don’t pay taxes from purchases from B&H out of New York Re: Amazon..Im not using them any more..Been reading - NewtonMP2100 - 08-29-2018 ....so you just got red (read).....??? If you're gonna encourage your friends and associates (which I'd suggest includes this forum), you kinda owe it to everyone to spell it out. Re: Amazon..Im not using them any more..Been reading - Acer - 08-29-2018 On several occasions over the years I've gone into walmart for something pretty routine and found the peg for the one thing I need empty. I've seen that same peg stay empty for months. That never happens at Amazon. Righteous boycotts will go nowhere. Catalog, stock and price are king. |
