To me, if things are unjust and a plaintiff can't get relief elsewhere, then it's your job, federal judiciary. That's how "separate but equal" was finally tossed out, and "one man (or woman) - one vote" became famous in an effort to end racial vote suppression.
All that is required for evil to flourish is for good men todo nothingsay it's not their job.
I don't think that you're fairly characterizing the majority opinion, but that's not so important. Your message comes through.

Here's hoping that the resolution of gerrymandering ends better for America than things turned out for Brendan Dassey. SCotUS has already decided not to help him, either.

I'm concerned that current gerrymandering with ensure future gerrymandering. I don't see how this resolves without a significant cultural shift in politics.

No, but there's a clear path to incremental improvement. Bright lines at extremes should not be difficult.
Was the Maryland case before the court "extreme?" I don't think it was.
Here's my legislative district:
Maryland is carved up in a very deliberate effort to make it tough for Republicans to win anything. And I say that as a Democrat!
