In the UK, sneakers are "trainers".

...and before that (i.e. when I lived there) they were "plimsolls" (the name comes from the plimsoll line that is painted at the waterline of a ship because plimsolls generally had a white line painted around their perimeter).

I think, although I'm open to being corrected, that "sweatpants" has come to mean the pants that have a loose cuff -- and "joggers" are the pants that have the cuff with elastic that grips your leg, although not necessarily tightly. And the pants that had elastic but the pantslegs were long and loose enough to flop down and obscure the cuff seem to be obsolete.

Agreed. While I refer to all of these things as sweatpants myself, I think that term conjures notions of baggy, heavy, unflattering cotton loungewear. " Joggers" sounds a bit more stylish and tailored...and more marketable

And, here in Detroit, and most of MI, we call soda "pop". Everyone knows where I'm from when I ask for pop...

And it wasn’t a “soda” unless it had ice cream in it.

My mother would call them tennies in her light moments.
