Re: problem with itunes - Seacrest - 02-01-2007 Just thought of another way that could happen (multiple titles for a disc): Since the CDDB is end user-generated, some drunk or high Tull fan could have mislabled the Allman Bros CD at some point and poisoned the database. Re: problem with itunes - davemchine - 02-01-2007 I have been experimenting tonight. 1) I verified I was burning audio cd's. 2) I tried the cd's in my laptop and they were recongnized as music cd's but no track information appeared. 3) I reduced the song gap to zero as suggested above and burned new discs. Still no luck. 4) Then I checked the box "include cd text". No luck still. . 5) so then I went to google and looked up cddb which led me to http://www.gracenote.com/ . From there I did a search for my cd's and didn't find anything. I guess the database is a little behind. Harry Connick JR - Oh, My Nola Norah Jones - Not Too Late Dave Re: problem with itunes - BigGuynRusty - 02-01-2007 Despite Deckeda's claim, there is no Table Of Content on commercial CD's. BGnR Re: problem with itunes - deckeda - 02-01-2007 For a guy normally on top of things you're having an exceptional challenge with reading comprehension in this thread. Try searching for "Red Book TOC" and read up on the subject before you put both feet in your mouth? In about a minute you'll discover it isn't something I made up. Oh and by the way, thanks for essentially calling me a liar. It'll be remembered. Re: problem with itunes - davemchine - 02-01-2007 I think they might have you this time rusty, take a look at this, http://searchstorage.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid5_gci503642,00.html . "CDs are divided into a lead-in area, which contains the table of contents (TOC), a program area, which contains the audio data, and a lead-out area, which contains no data." and then from http://www.smart-projects.net/help.php?help=310 "The CD TOC contains the Session and Track Layout." I'd say it is very certain there is a TOC but that it does not contain any song or album information, just the track numbers and their length. Dave Re: problem with itunes - deckeda - 02-01-2007 Let me be clear, I'm not trying to "get anyone". This isn't something up for conjecture or speculation. I don't give a fsck if I'm regarded as being "right" --- none of this is an opinion of mine. I get no smug pleasure here, believe me. But me typing 2+2=4 and then having someone repeatedly saying it's a "claim" as if I made it up is the very definition of insanity. Guess it's time to hear from hal again. Or KKnR. Or KuteKelly? Jeebus, I was sure hoping those days were over. Re: problem with itunes - deckeda - 02-01-2007 [quote Pat] deckeda, What about the album/track info that shows up on some cd/dvd players with some cds? Where is that info stored? Pat, that sounds a lot like a few CD players I recall that featured a static CDDB database, or something like it, pre-installed. Years ago, if it's what I'm thinking it is --- and don't hold me to it. Re: problem with itunes - mikebw - 02-01-2007 Alternatively, could it be that the commercially produced CD he has on hand contained CD-TEXT information? I know this is not common, but if it did, and iTunes were able to import that information, perhaps when he burns his copy whatever application he is using is not set to include CD-TEXT. That's a LOT of "if's", but it seems possible to me. I might have missed it, but what application are you using to burn these copies? iTunes, Toast? Re: problem with itunes - BigGuynRusty - 02-01-2007 [quote deckeda]Oh and by the way, thanks for essentially calling me a liar. It'll be remembered. OOOH!! I am scared!! I'd better hide my Pet Rabbit!! BGnR Re: problem with itunes - MacMagus - 02-01-2007 Assuming that you have set your Burning preferences (in the Advanced options of the iTunes pref's) to burn as a regular audio CD and assuming that she has an always-on Internet connection... The most likely answer is simply that however the tracks were ripped or burnt, the lengths of the tracks don't match anything in the Gracenote database. If you're buying from the iTMS, be aware that music companies rip the tracks themselves and upload them to the iTMS. Depending on the ripping app, some brief silence may be added at the beginning and end of each track -- that's all that it would take. (Surprisingly, they seldom make the music files from the original masters. ![]() ...And AIF is a "wrapper" -- the CD-DA music is stored in a "raw" format that AIF and WAV are particularly suited for when that data is copied to a computer. CD audio discs are not "AIF music cds." Try this: after you burn the CD and before you send it away with your wife, insert the disc back in your drive and when it shows up in iTunes, confirm that the track information is intact and correct and then select "Submit CD Track Names" from the Advanced menu. See if your wife then finds that the information appears on her computer when she inserts the CD while at work. |
