IMHO, it's been a question for almost a century; why can't the styling of the cars we buy look like those one-off, "concept" designs?

Why must they always be toned down, diluted, homoginized to the point of looking like everything already available?

These never made it to the dealership!

Today's Rivian pickup design looks as different from this early "pickup"...

as Tesla's "pickup" design looks different from a "customary" pickup design...

Similar comments were being thrown around when the first iMac was released in 1998. Think different.

Yes, many successful things were initially criticized.

That doesn't mean everything that is criticized will succeed.

And it's still ugly.

It looks like a movie prop. Not too unlike the movie "Aliens" Armored Personnel Carrier.

It looks like what a third-grader would draw in art class for "Cars of the Future."

The first time I saw it, I was reminded of low-budget bad '70s sci-fi TV and movies showing a dystopian future, showing it as some kind of assault vehicle.

In fact, I've not been at all a fan of any Tesla vehicle except maybe the original Roadster, and I don't remember it well enough to be certain.

To me, all there vehicles fall just short of the mark of looking good.

From some angles they're ok, from others, I think 'Did they forget about his part' or 'Did they run out of time?'

The Truck is by far the worst offender.

It doesn't look good from any angle, only in the far off distance.

But I certainly won't begrudge anybody who like it or buys one.

I'm tired of hearing or reading all the idiots who proclaim 'more money than good sense' etc.

It's not for me, but if it makes somebody happy, fine by me.

Frankly, I think that most modern pickup trucks with the enormous plastic chrome grilles are hideous. The Tesla truck is a bit weird but doesn't have the over the top excessive chrome bling of most of the competitors such as...

How many preorders does Tesla have?

agree that the modern pickup is garish and gargantuan for no good reason other than some perceived macho styling cues. however, the CT is... beyond.
