Re: Useless Poll #512: Do you wear a watch? - cbelt3 - 01-23-2008 I wear a watch every day. Timex expeditions are what I've been buying- I'm rough on them (I'm clumsy). Since the only jewelry I wear is my wedding ring, the watch is a functional tool, not a decoration. I do have a few 'jewelry' watches, the two most precious are the watch my mother gave my father when they were engaged. He had it on his wrist the day he was killed. The other is my Great ^3 uncle's gold pocket watch. They both still keep perfect time. Re: Useless Poll #512: Do you wear a watch? - volcs0 - 01-23-2008 Haven't worn a watch in about 10 years. My son wanted one, so I got him a big indestructible one that is water proof - he never takes it off. My wife wears one too. Re: Useless Poll #512: Do you wear a watch? - Mike Sellers - 01-23-2008 My phone serves the same function so no. Re: Useless Poll #512: Do you wear a watch? - SDGuy - 01-23-2008 Yup - been wearing one of these for over 20 years now. The one day I forgot to put it on felt very weird. I ended up going to Target on my lunch break that day to buy another one (which I now keep stashed in a drawer @ work, "just in case"). In my defense, at the time, my job involved keeping a detailed test log, with time notations (in GMT) for when things occurred. I'd keep the second clock on it set to GMT (synced to the GPS feed we had in the lab). ![]() Re: Useless Poll #512: Do you wear a watch? - Mr. Ed - 01-23-2008 I doubt if it has to do with a particular generation. I'm 61 years young and never wear a watch. Re: Useless Poll #512: Do you wear a watch? - macbeergeek - 01-23-2008 For the past 30 years, yes, most of time, but in the past few years during the times when my watch or watchband has been broken, I go without it for a month or two (partly just due to procrastination). As others here have said, I did feel naked without it, but just for the first week or so, and then only when I wasn't near a clock (which I usually am). My current watchband broke (I'm hard on watches so I never buy really expensive ones) and since I now have a cell phone with me most of the time I decided to go longer without it. Been about 6 months... so far so good... If I'm not near a clock, then I generally have my cell phone with me, and the screen saver is set to display the time in big numbers. So far I'm not really missing the watch, which was just another thing to have to remember to put on in the morning, and like incognegro I don't like the metal twisty bands... they rip the hair out of my arm (yow!), so I usually have a leather band, but if I sweat on them in the summer they tend to get that sweaty-leather smell (yuck). There are clocks all over our house, in the cars, in the train station, and at work, so for me it hasn't been a big deal. One less thing to worry about. Re: Useless Poll #512: Do you wear a watch? - incognegro - 01-23-2008 I want a Timex iControl iPod watch next. Too cheap to spend $100 on one, though. http://www.macworld.com/article/59335/2007/08/icontrol.html Hmm, $70 here... http://www.jomashop.com/timex-icontrol-unisex-watch-t5k047.html Re: Useless Poll #512: Do you wear a watch? - mstudio - 01-23-2008 I wear one all the time. I've also got a collection, my favorites being a Seiko dive watch my wife bought me when I got my certification about 20 years ago and my departed dad's old Bulova that I had restored. That one is my dress watch. Re: Useless Poll #512: Do you wear a watch? - OWC Jamie - 01-23-2008 Used to. Probably checked it every two minutes, too. About 20 years ago decided not to ba a 'type A' person any more. If I'm late, I'm late. If there are dishes in the sink, there are dishes in the sink. If the floor hasn't been vacuumed for a month, that's what is. I don't run out of toothpaste, deodorant or toilet paper. Everything else I'll deal with when/if it happens. Well... maybe. And that crazy sale on Fossil watches that rz caught... that might've kept me wearing them (if I had a drawer full of them). |
