If you got one of the smaller models maybe you could limp along with "crappy FireWire" for one of the items in your list? If it's not too much of a hardship. ( ![]() Re: New MacBook Pros! - deckeda - 04-13-2010 And now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go play with the flap to the ExpressCard slot on my 15" MBP I have yet to use. (Settle down, folks, YES that's one of the reasons I got a Late '08 model, to potentially "future proof it." So far the joke's on me, still.) Re: New MacBook Pros! - space-time - 04-13-2010 guys, you have no clue of what you actually need vs what you actually want. Steve knows and he makes sure you get it. never doubt the leader Re: New MacBook Pros! - space-time - 04-13-2010 are the i5/i7 models quad core? Re: New MacBook Pros! - decay - 04-13-2010 can one boot from an SDHC card? Re: New MacBook Pros! - Silencio - 04-13-2010 Couldn't you boot the previous generation MBPs from an SD card? Solid if not super spectacular updates. At least the low-end 15" now has discrete graphics, and the Arrandale architecture is pretty sweet, but it really sucks that politics between Intel and Nvidia held back the release of these new MBPs for so long. Apple actually had to roll their GPU auto-switching tech thanks to that. Is USB3 shipping on any PC laptops yet? I thought all that was going to be delayed until 2011, though I did see some USB3 peripherals and PCI-Express cards for sale in the current MacConnection catalog. All things being equal, I'd rather have the ExpressCard slot than not, though it's pretty obvious that the vast majority of MBP buyers never use it. I don't think the "high res" screen on the 15" is going to be that bad: my wife's 5+ year old ThinkPad T43 has a 1440x1050 14" display, so the pixel density on the high-res 15" MBP should be pretty similar. I think my wife is really going to make the switch now! That'll make our lives a lot easier. Re: New MacBook Pros! - RAMd®d - 04-13-2010 Solid if not super spectacular updates. At this point what would be a super spectacular update, realistically speaking? I mean unless OLED screens become super cheap or neural implants are approved, it seems to me all we can really expect is incremental upgrades - HD size and/or type, faster processors, and newer video chips.
