Re: All COVID-19 Discussion GOES HERE - Speedy - 08-20-2024 My 32 y.o. son has just recovered from Covid and his twin children, age 5 months, are also recovering. He is a teacher in high school and was given clearance to go back to work five days after first testing positive. Mostly he had what he thought was a cold but his wife insisted on him going to the doctor for a test because of their young children. He did not have any home test kits. Re: All COVID-19 Discussion GOES HERE - Tiangou - 08-20-2024 A co-worker has been out for a week, is still suffering pretty bad symptoms. Is trying to telework, but can't do full days. Sore throat and so much phlegm that he has to interrupt Teams calls to run to the bathroom and spit it up. Headache and body aches and cough and on-again-off-again fever and dizziness. He was vaccinated and boosted, but skipped the last booster because he had COVID last year. Should have waited a few months and then boosted on top of that, but it probably wouldn't have helped all that much from what I hear. The latest variant seems to be different enough that the old vaccine offers little protection and protection from the vaccine/boosters seldom lasts much more than 4-5 months anyway (so this once-a-year schedule the CDC is pushing is BS). ...There are some studies suggesting that if you've been regularly vaccinating/boosting you might have a robust immune response against a broader group of coronaviruses than otherwise, and it may last longer. I'm hoping this is the case for myself as I've got health issues and COVID could really mess me up. I've been boosting every 4-6 months and I'm due for a booster right now, but I'm holding off for the new booster supposedly coming in September, and I'm trying to time it so that it's still providing protection from the mid-winter surge they're predicting. Re: All COVID-19 Discussion GOES HERE - rgG - 08-27-2024 Whoever gets the new jab, let us know how it goes, as far as any side effects. I usually feel a little crappy the next day and have a sore arm for a few, so I hope this one isn’t any worse than the others. Re: All COVID-19 Discussion GOES HERE - Speedy - 08-28-2024 Our Walgreens begins offering the new jab on 9/6 and we have our appointments including for a flu shot. The government program that pays for the booster ends on August 31. After that you are on your own except for limited funding in some states. Of course, for those on Medicare coverage is 100% for all vaccines (thank you, Obamacare). Re: All COVID-19 Discussion GOES HERE - wurm - 08-31-2024 Got my latest booster (2024-2025 Pfizer) this morning at CVS. They asked if I'd had any problems in the past and I said no and they said then this one should be fine, too. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. A few minutes later I was on my way. I will say that in all my previous shots, I was pretty much unaware that I'd even been jabbed. This time, I actually did feel it, but part of that may just have been the contrast with previous ones. Funny thing is, later this afternoon I was wondering why my right arm was a little sore and didn't even make the connection. Then a couple of hours ago I was doing my PT exercises for my left arm and again I'm thinking "Oh great, my left arm is f'ed up and now my right arm is starting to act up." That's when I noticed the band-aid and only then remembered this morning's shot. D'oh! Re: All COVID-19 Discussion GOES HERE - Speedy - 08-31-2024 Congrats, wurm. We can’t get ours for another week at our local Walgreens. Re: All COVID-19 Discussion GOES HERE - rgG - 08-31-2024 wurm wrote: Thanks for the report. Mine is scheduled for Sunday morning. I plan to get it in my right arm this time, since I sleep on my left side and my arm always gets sore. |
