I thought people were hiring illegals because they worked cheap. I wouldn't call $23 per hour cheap.

The maid is claiming that her hourly wage was supposed to be $23/hr for 15 hours a week (or something part time) but that they had her working more like 40, turning in to about $7/hr.
And for where they live, $23/hr is not at all out of line for housework. Going rate around here is $25-30 an hour if you hire them independently.

When it suits you guys illegals are getting paid starvation wages. Now we find out that apparently $23/hr is not enough. College graduates don't make that much. BTW, whose house needs 8 hours a day work? 3 hours max, if you count watching TV. I'd love to see her living quarters too.

Whitman and her family live in Atherton, CA, one of the wealthiest bay area towns. Median income there is around $250K and median home is around $2.2 million. So in Atherton, college graduates make quite a bit more than that.

She wasn't hired for 8 hours a day. She was hired for 15 hours a week. For a home the size of Whitman's that's very little. I'm sure this was not all the household staff they had.
