I honestly don't know what I would do. Jeter seems like a decent guy. I imagine with 90% of other players, I would sell it for sure.

If Jeter wants the ball sell it to him for 10% off FMV. A cell phone salesman just gave a quarter of a million dollars to a multi multi millionaire? Dumb.

No kidding. Everyone seems to focus on the 40% -50% taxes and ignore the rest is basically found money. Of course, the seller could stipulate than Jeter pays the taxes as well.

I'm a lifelong Yankees fan and #2 is Little Poochie's favorite Yankee.
As much as I respect Jeter, I'd hold out for the highest bidder. Sorry, but digging out of debt, securing Little Poochie's college fund and saving a few scraps for my retirement is more important to me than some silly baseball.

Update:
Fan has several thousands of dollars worth of student debt. Obviously didn't take any economics courses.
Someone explain to me how MLB has managed to shift thinking that the player who hit the ball "owns" it or that he has a rightful claim to it somehow.
