Regarding snopes.com.... when it comes to political items, they lean strongly toward the left and even have declared such items false which had been proven true. If you check them for items critical of the republicans, you'll find their opinion. Items critical of democrats aren't even addressed. Try it. truthorfiction.com is much less biased.

Of course, there are many chain emails circulating that claim that snopes.com has a political bias. However, they're usually filled with half-truths or outright fabrications. Factcheck.org did an expose on one of them here: http://www.factcheck.org/2009/04/snopescom/ . Of course the pat answer to that one would be that factcheck.org is also a politically biased site.

I never meant for this to get political. I would be interested in which stories snopes has a bias on with citations to reveal the bias. As you all may know, after 10 years in the media business I am not a fan of politicians and while I do not post on the political side, I still have a watchdog mentality when it comes to the BS that falls out of all politicians mouths. I have found snopes citations for the stories I have looked at and followed up later with my own research to so far show fact busting.
If snopes works great, if other fact check work for you then so be it. Just make sure the citations aren't of some tv or radio talk show host whose job it is to interject opinion as well.
Some of the things I have seen passed on facebook and email are just flat out untrue due to any supporting evidence. The moment something starts with "I knew a guy who told a guy who experienced..." is not sufficient citation.

That's correct. My world view is that a detached scientific approach should be taken to all questions. That's why I like snopes. I posted an example of why these "bias" claims against snopes are bogus. Specifically that the widely circulated claims that the owners of the site are rabid liberals have been shown to be false. What is your world view exactly?

Much of the complaint against snopes is their ignoring major issues critical of Obama. As an example: Did president give Vice-president Biden a pay increase by executive order? truthorfiction.com correctly responds TRUE. Snopes.com doesn't even address this very true issue because it is critical. The same search at snopes.com responds.... nothing found. HELLO, this is a major current irritant and they don't know?
