Re: Speaking of autos and lights - jdc - 05-15-2016 Who knew you people all wanted me and my family dead? No clue how getting Tboned has anything to do with blinkers. Thats like saying Im vegan so I must be an excellent juggler. Re: Speaking of autos and lights - Grateful11 - 05-15-2016 jdc wrote: Here's a scenario for you. Nevermind it'll fall on deaf ears no matter what we say. Let's just say I prefer that others know without a doubt what my next move is without them having to guess. Unstable persons devoid of morals who threaten other people's lives should be separated from society. As should be individuals who go about their lives with zero regard or consideration for the other members of said society. Cemeteries a full of people who either shared your misconception, or had the misfortune of encountering them. Then we have those who faithfully signal and do follow on their stated intentions. Those who believe that by turning on the left or the the right turn signal they can change the lane appropriately, even though that space is occupied by somebody else. "I signaled", ie I am entitled. I would rather they did not signal and only changed lanes when that space was available... Re: Speaking of autos and lights - DeusxMac - 05-15-2016 jdc wrote: OK. Here's an explanation for you. 1. Two lane highway; one lane in each direction 2. You begin to slow to make a left turn at an upcoming intersection - showing no signal whatsoever 3. Car approaching in the opposite direction at full posted speed (let's say 50 mph) 4. Both you and the other driver mistake circumstances; you misjudge his speed as being slower than it is, he fails to perceive that you have begun to slow (although if you're showing no signal, your speed on the other side of the highway does not represent anything to which he will need to respond*) 5. You start your un-signaled turn when he is at a distance where he, at the speed limit, no longer has enough roadway to stop before striking you Result; you're T-boned *as in: - you've slowed to make a right turn at the intersection; no need for him to slow - you've slowed to look for a street address; no need for him to slow - etc. Re: Speaking of autos and lights - Filliam H. Muffman - 05-15-2016 I have seen people race into a turn-only/exit-lane because it was empty and they thought it was a new lane starting. Then they slam on the brakes and try to get back into the original lane. On the freeway I have seen people jump into exit lanes and race down to pass traffic, then jump back into traffic when the lane runs out. I will get into those lanes and leave my turn signal on so that people know I am exiting. The worst location used to be in Richmond, the Cutting Blvd on ramp to I-80 East, down to the San Pablo Ave off ramp. It also happens on I-80 East and West on either side of Davis. I would guess it happens in Sacramento on Cap City between Arden and El Camino, but I haven't drive that in traffic in about 8 years. Re: Speaking of autos and lights - Fred_Also - 05-15-2016 I always signal because almost everyday I see in the paper, "Drug bust on 3rd street. Cops stopped car for failure to signal lane change. Cops smelled something funny and called for backup K-9 drug dog to sniff car. Three people arrested for drug possession." Now I don't use or carry drugs but I avoid the hassle of getting pulled over. You could make all those same mistakes with your blinker on, and we could *easily* make one small change to your specific story and give it a different ending. Same 2 lane road: Youre oblivious to the fact have had your left blinker on since you left the house. Drivers from the opposite direction are such great drivers with spectacualr vision -- they keep slowing cause they think you are gonna turn... unbeknownst to them your blinker has been on for the last 20 minutes and the stack of 20 cars behind you keeps waiting for you to turn. Finally one goes around you -- cause clearly you arent turning -- and they cant see the car in the opposite lane and you cause a head on collision. Cause you had your blinker on. |
