We have the notorious Maytag stinker and leaving the door open alll the time it is not being used solved the problem I agree completely with billb. Dave Sometimes the only solution is to replace it with a HE top-loader. Re: So our washer is making our clothes smell mildewy. options? - JPK - 08-25-2017 We have one of those class action front load Whirlpool ones where mold grows on the rubber seal faster than paycheck. We leave the door open. It does help. I have replaced the seal, it was about $75 and a couple hours on a saturday. About once a month I run a cycle of bleach and then a cycle of Simple Green Pro 5 https://www.amazon.com/Simple-Green-30501-Disinfectant-Bottle/dp/B0013CIVVE/ref=pd_sbs_328_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=JMNCT9CACMKKT2T8KDH5 I use this stuff for my kid's hockey gear. It is strong stuff, hospital/industrial grade. Then a run a couple of extra cycles of just water to make sure all is cleaned out. I think it helps. I blame the parts that fell off on Whirlpool, but the mildew was common to all models. Fortunately, she agreed to a high-efficiency top loader when the warranty expired a month before the last breakdown. Still, with all the recommendations to run 3-4 extra loads a month, I'm not sure where the water and energy savings are coming from. Re: So our washer is making our clothes smell mildewy. options? - AllGold - 08-25-2017 Bleach is the most effective mold/mildew killer--that isn't toxic in concentrations normally used in the household.
