Re: Announcement, if anyone's curious: Preparing to evac, if necessary... - Michael - 08-28-2008 Be careful and good luck! Re: Announcement, if anyone's curious: Preparing to evac, if necessary... - OWC Jamie - 08-28-2008 I've had to evacuate here in Ma. No big traffic jams when there are only a couple hundred of us living on the beach. :-) Having seen pics of some of the heavy traffic on the interstates, I wouldn't wait till branches were falling and water rising to get out of Dodge. Re: Announcement, if anyone's curious: Preparing to evac, if necessary... - SteveO - 08-28-2008 Aye, pack 'em up tight, drive 5 or 6 hours north and away from the storm path, get an air conditioned hotel room. Deal with it the best way you can. But don't wait 'til it's too late. Please. The stench of death is unforgettable. And this forum would not be the same without PeterB. Re: Announcement, if anyone's curious: Preparing to evac, if necessary... - rgG - 08-28-2008 Good luck Peter, One of my best friends from high school lived in NOLA for many years and was there for Katrina. He made it out, but just barely. He moved back to GA shortly after that. You are right to take it seriously and get out when you feel the need. Better to take a little road trip and be safe than to get trapped with no power or water. Good luck with the furry little ones. Re: Announcement, if anyone's curious: Preparing to evac, if necessary... - mjgkramer - 08-28-2008 With a major storm approaching New Orleans the dilemma is whether to leave early and get out, possibly looking like a wuss, or wait until the last minute and risk being caught when the storm arrives in bumper to bumper traffic on the 24 mile long Lake Ponchartrain Causeway or on IH10 going through the swamps west of NO or over the east end of Ponchartrain. Re: Announcement, if anyone's curious: Preparing to evac, if necessary... - Blurb - 08-28-2008 Best wishes to PeterB and the rest of those living in the landfall area. Stay safe and follow your gut about when to leave. Our blessings and thoughts are with all of you. So, now we know. PeterB is never really alone. He's always got his army of hamsters! ![]() Re: Announcement, if anyone's curious: Preparing to evac, if necessary... - PeterB - 08-28-2008 [quote mjgkramer]With a major storm approaching New Orleans the dilemma is whether to leave early and get out, possibly looking like a wuss, or wait until the last minute and risk being caught when the storm arrives in bumper to bumper traffic on the 24 mile long Lake Ponchartrain Causeway or on IH10 going through the swamps west of NO or over the east end of Ponchartrain. Count me and my little furry creatures as wusses, then. ![]() Re: Announcement, if anyone's curious: Preparing to evac, if necessary... - voodoopenguin - 08-28-2008 Haven't you gone yet? ![]() Take care. Re: Announcement, if anyone's curious: Preparing to evac, if necessary... - dmann - 08-28-2008 Safe travels to you and your furry friends PeterB (and any others in the area.) Hopefully, Gustav will lose his way before he does any more damage. DM |
