It's a stacked deck kind of question. I usually reply, "Not today." but I like Tominator's response a lot.

(jimmypoo's response comes in second)

Outside Walmart once, I was approached and asked if they could talk to me about Jesus. I said, "Sure. What do you want to know?"

A: "No comprendo"

B: save a big juicy fart & let it out just at that time.

My favorite response for the people in the mall who approach you and lead off with "Can I ask you a question?" --- "you just did." and then walk away.

Obviously, a lot of people here enjoy being jerks - RAMd®d - 07-25-2009

...if given an opportunity.

Or want others to think they have the balls to be jerks.

I enjoy being polite if not denied the opportunity. I just say "No, thank you" with a little smile.

They know exactly what I don't have time for and accept it, though there may be, somewhere, exceptions.

It's not as though they're spraying perfume or cologne at you.

I have done much promotional work, no soliciting for non-profits, though. Giving out flyers, freebies, trade shows, etc. From that perspective, I only wanted to be treated with the respect one would give a fellow human.

I was fine with someone not wanting to be bothered and would want to move on to the next possibility ASAP anyway. No matter what I thought of the product/event, I was doing a job and wanted the same respect anyone else would get. Of course, I made sure to give it, too.
