Trusting your vpn provider -
I agree with people who are bringing the issue of trust. When you sign up for a service like HotspotShield - you are basically trusting the company with all your data. Hence it is important to do thorough research.
I work for Anchorfree (we make Hotspotshield). I want to give you some background on the company. We have been providing this service for over 5 years. We are based out of silicon valley and have raised over $10M in funding from leading VCs. More than 7 million people in 100+ countries use our free software every month to stay private, secure and uncensored. We have been written about by most of the leading media sources (NY Times, CNN, FOX, Wall Street, CNET etc). We don't track any user data. There is no way for us to identify a user and any of their personal data.
But my last statement may not have a lot of weight since I work for the company ;-).
