Months, easily - probably a year or more. Lots of dried packaged food, Crystal Light (for the vitamin C requirements), dehydrated food, and enough filters stocked up to turn around 12,000 gallons total of any murky water into something potable.

If things really went to sh*t, and I have to worry about the neighbors - well, there's enough firearms and ammo stored away to handle that, too.

No, I don't have some sort of Survivalist Bunker stocked up - it's just the stuff I already have in the pantry (except the firearms and ammo - those are kept separately, and just happened to collect over the years).

You might be surprised how fast they "adapt" after three weeks of no electricity, no running water, taking a dump in the back yard in a hole, to eating food "they don't like'....

Kinda puts whats important in perspective...

Besides, if they get too bad, you can always sell them to the roving bands of looters as porters for a bag of Doritos and a can of warm Pepsi...
Or spit roast one of them in the front yard, and see of the other children wise up... or take a liking to "long pork barbeque".

Recent history has shown us that for whatever reason some people don't adapt.

Good book for people who don't know survival skills already:

The author lives down the road from me and she walks the walk and talks the talk.
There's a disaster, I'm going to ask her to adopt me.

As the hardcore "survivalists" scan the horizon then cautiously move out of their caves to vote. Wink

Even better, I have a selection of DELIVERY menus. Smile A very, very, very large selection made even larger by the numerous online menu and ordering services!!!!! I guess I'll survive after all.

We are joking, obviously. I have some canned goods and some stuff in the freezer, but I live in a highrise condo near downtown Chicago. If there is a major earthquake here, I am fairly certain that I will have to leave my building immediately (if the whole thing doesn't crash down on top of me first.) Food stockpiled in my fridge and pantry will be irrelevant.

In the winter a fairly long time as I can just send one kid out each month to freeze in the garage. My kids would go bad really fast in the summer. Maybe send the wife out in the summer as she is mostly already preserved.
