Re: How Long Can You Survive With What You Have? - SDGuy - 09-23-2009 Months, easily - probably a year or more. Lots of dried packaged food, Crystal Light (for the vitamin C requirements), dehydrated food, and enough filters stocked up to turn around 12,000 gallons total of any murky water into something potable. If things really went to sh*t, and I have to worry about the neighbors - well, there's enough firearms and ammo stored away to handle that, too. No, I don't have some sort of Survivalist Bunker stocked up - it's just the stuff I already have in the pantry (except the firearms and ammo - those are kept separately, and just happened to collect over the years). There's a disaster, I'm going to ask her to adopt me. I have some canned goods and some stuff in the freezer, but I live in a highrise condo near downtown Chicago. If there is a major earthquake here, I am fairly certain that I will have to leave my building immediately (if the whole thing doesn't crash down on top of me first.) Food stockpiled in my fridge and pantry will be irrelevant. DM Re: How Long Can You Survive With What You Have? - Speedy - 09-24-2009 In the winter a fairly long time as I can just send one kid out each month to freeze in the garage. My kids would go bad really fast in the summer. Maybe send the wife out in the summer as she is mostly already preserved. |
