What you’re describing is still a vast improvement over not having any health coverage at all. That’s what my wife, daughter and I are facing right now. It’s what all too many people already face each day. Complain all you want but it is still better than nothing at all.

My parents have medicare. I understand how it works and it is still a huge improvement over the clusterfrag that is available to everyone who can't use it. I don't think you understand my point. We need something better than what we have now. The closest thing we have to this is Medicare and its supplementals.
Medicare for the basics and spend the bucks (or receive as a perk from an employer, union, school, membership organization, etc) for a supplemental if you want/need more. It might not be perfect but it is what we have now and it'd be a good starting point for developing something better.
