Re: Old-timers from the "old forum" - Ted King - 08-18-2009

5/09/99 was the earliest that I posted as "Ted King" according to the search I did. I'm pretty sure I posted under some other name earlier but I can't remember what I initially used. I lurked for awhile before that.

6/29/99 is the first post that turns up in a search... but I'm pretty sure I lurked for at least a year, and maybe posted unregistered or under another handle.

In any event, more than 10 years!

My first post from search over there was March '01, lurked for awhile before that. This forum and that other one have been among the best I've found.

what a long strange trip it's been.........

My oldest post as "davester" was 2005, but I was lurking and posting unregistered for several years before that as I recall. So, what have I been doing with my life since then?...posting on a silly mac forum?...I'll never get rich this way!!

You were such a good lurker. Why give it up? Smile

I started lurking on dealmac around '98, I think and probably started posting in '99. The earliest post I could find is dated 07/08/00 titled "Which multimedia authoring tool?". (God, seems like I'm always posting about work - not nearly enough totally useless but equally soul satisfying posts like "Hard @ss NJ Canada Geese".

That post was when I was working with Petro ( remember him? ) at e-Vue, an MPEG-4 development startup.

It sure was great over there in those days.

Re: Old-timers from the "old forum" - Todd's keyboard - 08-18-2009

There was a discussion about computer virii (and whether anyone with a Mac OS had ever had one).

I posted about a problem with my PowerTower Pro 225. IIRC, every 24 minutes (I think) the computer inserted the phrase "Welcome datacomp" into the text, wherever the cursor was located.

Several members let me know the problem was the keyboard. The story was some disgruntled employee had embedded the code in a third-party keyboard.

That gave me the name for this forum. Have pretty much found good advice here ever since.

Re: Old-timers from the "old forum" - Carnos Jax - 08-18-2009

Says my first post was in '04, but I'm pretty sure I was there since '98 or so. Lurked initially after stumbling on the site in my early deal hunting days. I remember all the colorful characters. Wish there was some sort of table that kept track of name changes, etc. I've always been Carnos Jax. I know some of the others old handles. Furious Styles was a name I remember (that wasn't mentioned in the thread already).

'02 was my earliest post on the "other" forum. Likely I was lurking for some time before that.
