Perhaps i should be ashamed, but you should definitely feel embarrassed. :jest: Yes, that was a descent into low-level discourse. I did it as the obvious response to Speedy's snarky (and nasty) comment, "People around the world loved and respected Pres. Bush so much, Pres. Obama was given the Nobel Peace Prize for being not Pres. Bush." /Mr Lynn Snarky, but the part about the Peace Prize was quite accurate. Re: RIP , photojournalist James Foley - $tevie - 08-22-2014 FWIW, I think that prize was a misguided effort to award this country for electing our first person of color, presented to Obama as the leader of this country. In short, a mistake in thinking that we had overcome a major hurdle in our attitudes about race. Probably due to not understanding a number of things about the USA, not the least of which is we don't really consider the President the leader of this country unless we agree with him. I honestly don't think it was meant to be A Major Award for Obama the man, but rather Obama the symbol. Too confusing for anyone in this country to grasp. I grasp what they were doing, but they were waaaaaay premature. Norwegian Nobel Committee wrote: Re: RIP , photojournalist James Foley - hal - 08-22-2014 I think the award was more like, "thank GOD our long, international nightmare has ended - GIVE THIS MAN A MEDAL!" Re: RIP , photojournalist James Foley - swampy - 08-22-2014 Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population. So the rest of the world is ready to go play golf while journalists are being beheaded? Re: RIP , photojournalist James Foley - Speedy - 08-22-2014 swampy, just because reactionary media is running the golf meme doesn't mean regular folks give it much credence. It shows the desperation of the far right. Re: RIP , photojournalist James Foley - Wild eep - 08-22-2014 swampy wrote: What a lame ass, ignorant comment from the far right. You are too shallow swamp. Once again you prove how biased you are. Re: RIP , photojournalist James Foley - Lux Interior - 08-22-2014 swampy wrote: Obama sure isn't acting presidential, is he. Remember his flippant "Watch this drive" comment? Truly an embarrassment. Re: RIP , photojournalist James Foley - $tevie - 08-23-2014 Oh for crying out loud, is the right wing still harping about Obama playing golf? They think he should be caddying instead, yes? |
