Name that glass! - mikebw - 07-10-2010 I recently received a large set of glassware- ![]() The etched wheat pattern matches my China set- ![]() There appears to be 16 different types of glass not counting the pitcher and ice bucket. I can't come up with 16 different names for them without resorting to with Bob, Paul, Joe... Can you guys help me figure out what these things called and hopefully what they are for? ![]() I have individual close-ups of each one matched by number to the photo above, along with what I think they are named, I could be wrong. 1. Shot Glass 2. Old Fashioned 3. Highball 4. Collins 5. Cordial ? 6. Whiskey Sour? 7. Port/ Sherry ? 8. 9. 10. Water? 11. Martini / Cocktail ? 12. ? 13. Champagne Glass (thanks iaJim) 14. Brandy Snifter 15. Shrimp cocktail (thanks Mike J) (this has two pieces) top and bottom 16. Pilsner Next I just need to figure out what to do with them all. Re: Name that glass! - iaJim - 07-10-2010 I'd say that 13 is a champagne glass. Re: Name that glass! - space-time - 07-10-2010 "15. Iced Cocktail ?? (this has two pieces) top and bottom" maybe the top goes the other way around, i.e. it's a cap/cover? does it fit the other way around? Re: Name that glass! - mattkime - 07-10-2010 #4 is a Robotussin glass #9 is a blood rite glass Re: Name that glass! - Mike Johnson - 07-10-2010 13 is a champagne/sherbet glass 12 is an oyster glass or low sherbet 15 is a two-piece shrimp cocktail glass 5 is the cordial 7 is the claret 6 would just be a wine glass Re: Name that glass! - mikebw - 07-10-2010 iaJim wrote: Ahh, I believe you may be right. It appears this was the common style in the 60's, and as this set is a bit older that makes sense! (updated info in my list above) Now what would the shorter one be? Re: Name that glass! - N-OS X-tasy! - 07-10-2010 Beautiful sideboard. Re: Name that glass! - mikebw - 07-10-2010 Mike Johnson wrote: I think #6 is really too small to be a wine glass, its only 4.5" tall and holds 2.5 oz. #10 is big enough to be a wine glass but the shape and stem height seems wrong. Re: Name that glass! - iaJim - 07-10-2010 I'd say that 12 is a sherbert. Re: Name that glass! - iaJim - 07-10-2010 Some interesting information about champagne glasses. http://www.thesmartset.com/article/article09120701.aspx |
