Accuracy of Apple Store time estimates? - john-o - 07-11-2010 I'm in a bind, as my 3Gs got wet on my recent Ireland trip, and the backlight is essentially non-functional. I ordered a 4 on Friday, but the shipping estimate is "three weeks". I'm curious if anyone here has actual experience with the accuracy of their shipping estimates for new iPhones since the 4 came out? I'm gonna be seriously bummed & frustrated if I have to get by with this wonky device for almost a month! Somebody give me some good news! :banghead: P.S. anyone have a guess at how much I might get for the water-damaged 3Gs on eBay or Craigslist? Re: Accuracy of Apple Store time estimates? - Ken Sp. - 07-11-2010 FYI-They may replace your 3Gs for $199 or $299 32GB without any effect on your contract, and you could easily recover that cost reselling the 3Gs. Re: Accuracy of Apple Store time estimates? - J-J- - 07-11-2010 I have always found that the online estimates are rather conservative. Case in point- I ordered an iPad, it was scheduled to be shipped in 7-10 BUSINESS Days from the order which meant it would not ship until July 9 and then arrive by July 12 I received it on July 8. YMMV Re: Accuracy of Apple Store time estimates? - john-o - 07-11-2010 Ken Sp. wrote: They'll replace it for $199 (and it's a 32BG). I've been thinking maybe I should do that, just to keep myself from going nuts until I get the 4? Are you saying you think I could get $299 for it, even if I only pay $199 to get it replaced (seeing that it's a 32GB)? Thanks, John Re: Accuracy of Apple Store time estimates? - john-o - 07-11-2010 J-J- wrote: Thanks, that's what I'm praying for!! Re: Accuracy of Apple Store time estimates? - RAMd®d - 07-11-2010 In general, Apple under promises and over delivers. In the case of the i4, Apple has continued the tradition. After the initial launch, some ship times were extended from their previous estimates, but were delivered earlier than stated. I bet this will be the case as well. I'll have go wait a year! Thanks, John No--I thought they would charge $299 for the 3Gs If you can get a 32GB for $199 you can easily turn it in here http://www.nextworth.com/member/2109/ for $212-$232 and they will ship you a box and pay for all shipping Re: Accuracy of Apple Store time estimates? - john-o - 07-11-2010 Ken Sp. wrote: If you can get a 32GB for $199 you can easily turn it in here http://www.nextworth.com/member/2109/ for $212-$232 and they will ship you a box and pay for all shipping Is that legit? I see you get a referral (which I have no problem with), but it almost sounds too good to be true... I very much respect your opinion Ken, but have never heard of nextworth before... Re: Accuracy of Apple Store time estimates? - Ken Sp. - 07-11-2010 Yes--there are 3 that are legit This was higher than the other two by $30-$40 or so Gazelle http://www.gazelle.com/referral_code/nosken-gma5843 and BuyMyTronics http://www.buymytronics.com/Apple-iPhone/Apple/Apple-iPhone-3G-S-32GB BuyMyTronics head honcho even replies to email I get referrals from them all, and I ran the numbers and this was the best. Whatever you do--Lock in the price now. With NextWorth, you have 21 days to send it in. Gazelle 30 days. That being said--you can make more on Craigslist or eBay I will gladly pay you $199 for your new 32GB when you get it. Re: Accuracy of Apple Store time estimates? - john-o - 07-11-2010 Ken, My only thought is that might actually net more by trying to sell it as-is. What are your thoughts on that? I'm thinking I might be able to get as much as $100 for it on eBay or C-list... |
