PSA: Back up your computer! - dmann - 07-11-2010 That is all. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. ![]() DM Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - RAMd®d - 07-11-2010 Time change already?! Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - Grateful11 - 07-11-2010 Sounds like dmann had a bad day. Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - Paul F. - 07-11-2010 After helping my dad through a hard drive crash a couple weeks ago, AGAIN with no backup, I just wanted to add; "Yeah.. what Dmann said..." :agree: :agree: :agree: Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - kj4btkljv - 07-11-2010 I'll add one more step to the backup advice - test and make sure your backups work! Nothing sucks more than relying on a backup system (software and hardware) only to find out it wasn't working when the backup was really needed. I'm just sayin', 'cause it has happened to me. Jeff Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - wurm - 07-11-2010 While I do back up regularly, I have come to the conclusion that (and I know I'm just tempting fate by saying this) I really don't think it would be a tragedy if I didn't. Yes, it would be inconvenient for a while, but there's nothing I have on my computer that I would be overly stressed out about losing. In fact, my trial of Backblaze just expired and I can think of a good reason to pay the $5/mo to keep it going. That said, I am aware that I may be unique in that regard, so as others have mentioned...back up now while you're thinking of it. Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - PeterB - 07-11-2010 OK, dmann's post has me nervous. Exactly what kind(s) of backup are we talking here? Full clone? Time Machine? etc. Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - dmann - 07-12-2010 No problems on my end at all (knock wood!) Just wanted to give everyone a friendly reminder to run a backup in case it has been a while. Consider it my little gift to the forum. ![]() DM Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - Grateful11 - 07-12-2010 I'm using SuperDuper on my MacBook and Time Machine on my Mini. The one thing with TM is that it does it in the background and unless I see the little TM clock turning I never know it's happening. TM has already paid off for me once in that I was able to go back and pull an old iPod Touch backup off of it and restore all my settings after I neglected to secure a good backup before Formatting my Mini. I realize it's not really suppose to be used in this manner but it worked. Also I think the TM interface is pretty cool! I'm probably going switch over to TM on my MacBook as it was also recently formatted and it's running fine so I can blank out the 100G partition on my portable HD and set it up for TM. I agree with "wurm" I don't really have anything that cause the world to end if I lost it. My photos are loaded up in 4 places, my Mini's HD, the Mini's FW external HD, my MacBook and my MacBooks portable HD. My photos would be my biggest heartbreak.
