how to backup iDisk (copy of local volume preferred) - edgarbc1 - 07-12-2010

i have a slow enough internet connection where backing up the cloud is not preferred.
Is there a way to backup the local iDisk copy on the HD (see syspref for MobileMe for this local copy
feature)

I happen to be looking at my Time Machine HD and didnt see the iDisk backed up.
Strangely enough I dont see the local iDisks (i have two for two different accounts) in the Time Machine
preference to option to backup or not. My understanding is that they are treated as a separate disk
image or volume (like a CD-R or plugged in external HD)

thanks in advance for your help!
E

As I understand it, the local copy is a backup of what is already online. Keeping another physical copy could lead to inconsistencies.
On the other hand, if backing up to the cloud cannot be handled at night, and is neccesary, I would look into a speedier connection.

Anyway...

oh... and one of the virtues of the local iDisk copy, is that you can modify it, and eventually cloud-iDisk will catch up.

yeah, i was trying to include the iDisk into a Time machine
backup and it looks like a no go. Looking to get an archive copy
of what the iDisk was at a certain date in time.

i may have to mess around with copying the iDisk to a local folder and then TM would have access to back it up.. not perfect, but do-able

thanks
