— you can travel across this entire land, there ain't no place like Birminham'.
Maybe I'll find out this Saturday. Going there on a job that night. If I show up early, is there something I should check out or visit first?

Spent one night in the Birmingham Holiday Inn @ the Airport. I never more ready to leave a place in my life.
Seemed to be a very bad part of the town.

Steel is no longer rolled in downtown Burminham. Occasionally a roll of steel will fall off of truck & poke a hole in the freeway but that's a different matter entirely.
Check out Vulcan Park atop the ridge known as Red Mountain. You wont be disappointed.

I grew up in Alabama, and I'm not a big fan of bamaham... it's becoming Detroit South at a rapid pace. But they did get a Chuy's recently, so there's that.

Dreamland BBQ is right around the corner from Vulcan Park. Good BBQ and a city icon.
Also if interested there is the Civil Rights Museum.
But like many have said not really a whole lot to do in town. The Botanical Gardens are free though, which is near the Vulcan Park too.

To get to Dreamland from Vulcan Park, you'd take Richard Arrington Blvd North, bear left at the "Y" onto 20th St., turn left at 14th Ave S, and Dreamland is 5 1/2 blocks West on the left on 14th Ave S, located in a tiny block of stores in the middle of a residential neighborhood.
Dreamland is more famous and draws more tourists, but Rib-It-Up at 830 1st Ave N has superior food.
