Will this USB modem work on a G3 iMac? - Dennis S - 07-19-2010 Here is the link and partial descripton from ebay. I need one for use on a G3 iMac which doesn't "find" a modem (although it's there on the pull-down menu) and/or a PC with XP that had its modem fried by lightning. The description mentions "Networking" and I don't know if that rules out just plugging it in straight to the phone line. It doesn't mention Mac under what it supports. http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-56K-Dial-up-Voice-Fax-Data-Modem-Mac-Win7-Vista-/250619866103?cmd=ViewItem&pt=PCC_Modems&hash=item3a5a1babf7 56K Data/Fax modem with USB interface Data Compression: V.44,V.42bis, MNP 5 Fax Mode capabilities: Group 3, class 1 Data mode capabilities: V.92, V.90 56 Kbps Error Correction capabilities: V.42, MNP4-2 Comes with one CD driver and one Phone/ Line Cable Networking USB Fax Modem works on both PC and MAC computers No external power supply required Small size, light-weighted, easy to carry Supports Windows 98 / 2000 / XP / XP64 /Vista /Vista 64 & Windows7 Re: Will this USB modem work on a G3 iMac? - deckeda - 07-19-2010 Is the iMac's built-in modem also fried? It was working and it sat up for a few months and then, when I hooked it back up, the modem doesn't work. Re: Will this USB modem work on a G3 iMac? - Harbourmaster - 07-19-2010 Without knowing explicitly that there are Mac drivers for it I wouldn't touch it unless it was free... Re: Will this USB modem work on a G3 iMac? - Dennis S - 07-19-2010 I may just buy a sub-$10 PCI modem off ebay for the PC to get me back online. Do they all pretty much fit a Compac SR1103WM running XP? Are there any specific specs to be aware of? I don't care about the speed other than it being 56k. Edit: I just ran across this one that's the same brand as what's in it: http://cgi.ebay.com/Encore-ENF656-ESW-AGPR-56k-PCI-FAX-Modem-v-92-Agere_W0QQitemZ220539985488QQcategoryZ44940QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m8QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DMW%26its%3DC%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7003561441756570106 I'll come to the library Tuesday and buy it if I don't hear anyone object. |
