Meg Whitman's former housekeeper was an undocumented worker and claims working for the Republican candidate for Governor - btfc - 09-29-2010

"Nicky Diaz Santillan, Whitman's housekeeper of 9 years, held a news conference with her lawyer, Gloria Allred, and claims Whitman had all the clues she was an undocumented worker but closed her eyes to it because she was cheap help ... $23 an hour.

Allred claims the housekeeper was "exploited, disrespected, humiliated and emotionally and financially abused" by Whitman.

Allred claims when the housekeeper was hired 9 years ago through an agency, Whitman never asked if she was in the U.S. legally. And, during her employment, Santillan told Whitman she couldn't travel to Mexico. And, Allred said, Whitman found out Santillan's Social Security number didn't match her name, but Whitman did nothing. Allred said it's the classic case of "don't ask, don't tell."

That all changed, Allred says, when Whitman launched her campaign for Governor, realizing having an illegal alien on board was a liability ... and fired her.

Santillan says Whitman treated her "like a piece of garbage" by letting her go.

Allred says Santillan is filing a claim with the Labor Commission for back wages and mileage.

Yesterday, Whitman said in the debate with Jerry Brown that employers should be held accountable for hiring undocumented workers."

No biggie. Hiring illegal aliens was the poutrage du jour during the Clinton administration. No one cares now.

Taxes are the new black.

Different economic times. Unemployment wasn't what it is in CA. Right or wrong, many continue blaming Mexicans for that rate being inflated and wages being suppressed. I don't think some will have the same laissez faire attitude towards it now. The right wingers will still celebrate their (and hers) entitlement to hire illegals as they see fit (as they hypocritically bitch about lost jobs). But there will be some that will now frown upon this.

Gloria must have run out of Tiger Woods' mistresses. I just hate it when women
set out to put womanhood back a century or two. Nine years! It was so bad she
stayed nine years? Allred reminds me of the zombies in the 50's grade B horror
movies. You think you're rid of them, but they keep popping up. I was on fence
before, but now I am DEFINITELY going to vote for Meg now - this is more of
brown's crap (is that redundant?) and I want that SOB out of here. She suffered for
9 YEARS? Uh, the economy was in good pre-Democrat shape in 2001, honey,
so why didn't you just get another job? Forced to eat toast points and finger
sandwiches no doubt. I don't care if Meg beat her everyday and kept her chained
in the basement. Anything, anybody, a dog, a cat, King Kong, is better for California
than that leftoid nutcase Jerry Brown.

$23 an hour 9 years ago for sitting around? How do I become illegal?

What makes you think she was just sitting around, besides the fact that you are a nasty little creep?

I always wondered how you became legal.

coincidental fortuitous revelation

The only story here is that Whitman was able to produce those documents before the housekeeper's press conference was over. They were certainly expecting this to be coming...

both sound like whiny losers - can't tell which one is lying the most...

i'm always amazed how folks running for elected office-in this case Republican Meg Whitman-have such easily shifting moral convictions.

employers who hire undocumented workers should be held accountable...unless its me or did the hiring!

Meg Whitman=another moneyed (i meant entitled) Republican.

ymmv

be well
