What gene is it that allows Republicans to be so shameless? - RgrF - 10-08-2010

Senator Orrin G. Hatch recently said that former President Bill Clinton “will go down in history as a better president” than the sitting one. Sean Hannity of Fox News, who has verbally abused Mr. Clinton for years, recently referred to him as “good old Bill.” Republicans in Congress have begun speaking of him with respect, even pining.

“I enjoy Bill Clinton,” Representative Paul D. Ryan, a six-term Republican from Wisconsin, said in an interview, echoing several colleagues. “The first two years of his term were one thing, but the rest of his presidency was tempered with moderation, and the nation benefited.”

Um, there was that whole impeachment thing. wrote:

Or Democrats..... Politics is the 'art of the possible'. It's possible to change your mind. Especially when it benefits you politically.

Be happy that polarizing politics may be showing signs of weakening as noted in this article. We need problem solvers, not lock-step ideologues.

When did Democrats seize on a personal weakness and actually try to impeach a Republican President?

You've built some sort of fantasy world around you, probably a reaction to Manny and later LeBron opting out of Cleveland.

Did I ever mention I once was employed by a Cleveland based company and part of the employment contract was to leave New England (or wherever you were based) and come to corporate to run training seminars for an entire week 4-times a year?

That policy alone burned off a lot of good people.

Ah, that would require balls and a spine.
You asked about the gene.

You think it takes balls to launch a political assault?

Ah... Rg.... Uhm... I'm talking about politicians in general. Personal attacks on presidents and their families are common. Admittedly, the impeachment attempt at William Jefferson Clinton was pretty much over the top, but in terms of political maneuvering, it was a classic. And yes, Andy Johnson was impeached by the Republicans (who wanted to grant full civil rights to the freed slaves, Johnson did not. How's that for reversed roles ? ). Only Dick Nixon was impeached by the Democrats, and we all know why that happened.

As re Cleveland... I can bet that's why it happened. But hey, we live where we work, and you can get used to damn near anything. Hell, I lived in Baluchistan for a while.

I've no idea what button I pushed to invoke the "user ignored" option, an option I dislike -- for those who think it's cute, it's not.

Maybe 'fil will save me, maybe he'll finally let me drown.

I'd take Obama as an opponent over someone like Bill Clinton any day. Obama is an ideologue who will fall on his sword rather than admit to his mistakes. Clinton stayed in office only by becoming a Republican when he found out that's what it takes to win. Does anybody here expect to see Obama stand before Congress and declare the era of big government is over or sign a healthcare reform reform the way Clinton signed welfare reform. Never.
