more Tea Party hilarity (Matt Taibbi) - decay - 10-14-2010 http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/matt-taibbi/blogs/TaibbiData_May2010/218982/83512 Quelle surprise! So it turns out that one after another of the Tea Party candidates is in one way or another mooching off the government. The latest series of hilarious disclosures center around Alaska’s GI-Joe-bearded windbag Senatorial candidate, Joe Miller, who appears to have run virtually the entire gamut of government aid en route to becoming a staunch, fist-shaking opponent of the welfare state. Re: more Tea Party hilarity (Matt Taibbi) - cbelt3 - 10-14-2010 Rolling Stone has always had enjoyable political reportage. Still, I think the bar was set by Hunter Thompson... uhm. well, OK, the bar was drunk DRY by Hunter Thompson... Am I surprised that politicians are personal hypocrites ? No. Re: more Tea Party hilarity (Matt Taibbi) - lafinfil - 10-14-2010 cbelt3 wrote: So what part did he get wrong factually ? Re: more Tea Party hilarity (Matt Taibbi) - $tevie - 10-14-2010 People like you with your "ho hum who cares" attitude are as much to blame as the politicians. Everyone who has decided this stuff is Business As Usual is sending the signal that politicians can do whatever they like because Americans won't pay any attention anyhow. Re: more Tea Party hilarity (Matt Taibbi) - OWC Jamie - 10-14-2010 It's ok, we know you don't comprehend the issues being discussed here. I DO look at the candidates on my election ballot, and review their records, expectations, stance on the issues, and appropriate historical information to allow me to reach a gestalt on their expected performance as MY elected representative. And yes, I have an older American's negative perspective on politicians in general. For obvious reasons. Some of them surprise me, which is good. Some of them don't. However, I do NOT make the mistake of assuming that because a person 'belongs' to one group or another that they will march lockstep with that group. Party membership is just one of the many factors that defines a candidate. I also don't make the mistake that damn near every media member (and many of the wonks here) seem to make, that a 'party' is best defined by their most extreme or egregious examples. Hence my stance in many cases. I encourage each of you to properly review the candidates on YOUR ballot, and make a judgement accordingly. In the 2010 election, much like in the 2008 election, I believe that the independent voter is rapidly becoming the majority in America. And this is a damn good thing for the health of the Republic.
