How to lose a federal election to a write-in candidate, By Joe Miller - mick e - 10-18-2010 Just wow on this guy! http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/10/18/102169/journalist-handcuffed-by-miller.html Re: How to lose a federal election to a write-in candidate, By Joe Miller - cbelt3 - 10-18-2010 yes, and Dan Rather got punched in the 1968 Democratic Primary. Which caused the Democrats to lose the presidential election..... Naah... Politics at a local level is a lot more fun. Re: How to lose a federal election to a write-in candidate, By Joe Miller - Grace62 - 10-18-2010 Miller and Murkowski are essentially tied at this point. As more information becomes public about Joe Miller, particularly his financial background, his popularity has declined. The negative campaigning against Murkowski by the Tea Party hasn't played too well either. Miller is an extremist. It's tough to poll on how a write-in candidate will do, but I'll be pulling for Lisa!! (Never thought I'd say that, but the Dem has no chance of winning, so I'll take the moderate Republican over the extreme one.) Re: How to lose a federal election to a write-in candidate, By Joe Miller - Grace62 - 10-18-2010 Freudian slip Joe? On Sunday, Joe Miller, candidate for US Senate, held a town hall meeting at a middle school in Anchorage. When asked about illegal immigration, Miller offered up: Build a wall! "If the East Germans could do it, so can we!" Really? The Stasi? I know Palin said we could see Russia from Alaska, but East Germany is pushing it. Re: How to lose a federal election to a write-in candidate, By Joe Miller - cbelt3 - 10-18-2010 East Germany ? Jeezo... Politicians say the darndest things. You won't have your "fifth column" inside the Republican caucus only to peal them off when they are needed. Re: How to lose a federal election to a write-in candidate, By Joe Miller - michaelb - 10-18-2010 I can't seem him losing, and I can't see any reason to cheer for Murkowski. Given her views, I am not sure it matters that much. That Dakota could refer to her as a RINO just shows how completely disconnected from reality he is on this forum. I sometimes think it is not necessarily a bad thing to have the Republican party implode on itself, but I still would strongly prefer that both parties nominate and elect the very best candidates available. What these tea party crazies will do if they actually elected remains to be seen, but I have a hard time seeing how that will strengthen the Republicans long term, or our democracy. Re: How to lose a federal election to a write-in candidate, By Joe Miller - Grace62 - 10-18-2010 Nate Silver thinks the Democrat (Scott McAdams) still has a shot because Murkowski is splitting the opposition and Miller's negative rating has shot up to 58%. Alaska's Senate race could make for a long election night Re: How to lose a federal election to a write-in candidate, By Joe Miller - Mac1337 - 10-18-2010 Yeah, splitting the wrong opposition. If people vote the way you want, Murkowski will be dividing the Democrat vote. Re: How to lose a federal election to a write-in candidate, By Joe Miller - Grace62 - 10-18-2010 It's a three-way race. McAdams has little chance of winning IMO when only 20% of Alaskans are registered Democrats. So given the other two choices, I'd pick Murkowski. Although it would be funny to see ethically challenged Joe Miller go to Washington and start attempting to end some of the gov't programs on which his state relies more heavily than any other, and from which he and his family have generously benefited. Are there any Tea Party candidates out there who are themselves genuine capitalist success stories? Let's just look at Sharron Angle. Husband worked for federal gov't. She worked as a public school teacher 25 years and then an office holder. And they hate the gov't?? If they hate gov't so much, why are they all so anxious to become (or stay) a part of it? It seems that most of the Tea Party candidates either have gov't careers or are financially helpless...anyone else notice that? |
