Hours of Power... - Buzz - 10-27-2010

Moved one the original Seagate Free Agent Pro external drives from a MDD G4 to a G5 hooked up via the FW option, and while the drive used to turn itself off when the MDD was shut down, it no longer does so w/ the G5... apparently the G5 keeps more stuff powered (like the FW ports) when it is shut down? I've grown to like the old Seagate FAP's, but if they're not gonna work their auto on/off magic w/ the G5's, I'll probably just copy their data to other externals and move 'em back to other MDD's. All the other externals need manual switching, so if the FAP's aren't gonna play nice w/ G5's, might as just use the regular manual switched externals there. The FAP's funky touch sensitive power switch is a pain in the keester, so I like the way they work automagically w/ the MDD's. Anybody know any tricks to coax the FAP's into working nicely w/ G5's, or am I gonna have to stick w/ the plan to migrate them back to the MDD's? Thanks,

Buzz

Thanks Doc, my google fu landed me on a few other Macintouch pages, but not that one, which was clearly more clear than what I found... guess it's back to the MDD's w/ the FAP's, and back to using externals w/ the manual switches again on the G5's and other macs that behave the same way.
