Threw together a layout with Comic Sans, client loves it, and really, in this case it's perfectly appropriate. But I fear the derision of my peers. Any classy substitutes for Comic Sans?

For me to suggest some, I'd need a little more info. Is the target kids, casual...? In what ways does cooomi, comii, coomm... the font you used work in this case?

No, generally try to stay away from the free fonts sites, unless I'm looking for dingbats.

Don't succumb to peer pressure. If the client likes it and it looks good, use good old Comic Sans. You can always say that the client insisted on it, if anyone asks.

Are your peers paying you for this or is your client? Huh? Some of us clients have different "tastes". I happen to really like Comic Sans for some things, and, if I were paying you to do this, I'd expect you to pay more attention to my preferences than to those of the non-paying critics.

Yeah, I got really sick of Comic Sans a few years ago. I had my whole website in the font, and whenever I look back at it (it's long gone from the Interwebs by now) I cringe a little. Sometimes I think Marker Felt is better (I actually have the heading in my resumé in Marker Felt), but not always.
