Switcher woes - troywellbuilt - 05-08-2006 I'm working on my second switcher, but having a huge problem. I lent a mini to my father-in-law in the hopes of convincing him to get a mac. He's trying to read his e-mail thru Earthlink's webmail. When he brings up his inbox he sees his e-mail subjects in blue and when he moves the cursor over the subject to click on it so he can read the e-mail the subject disappears and he cannot click on the empty space. I've never heard of this. Any ideas? He's only described this to me over the phone and isn't too computer savy, so maybe it's something simple. I don't want to lose this one! Re: Switcher woes - Paul F. - 05-08-2006 Sounds like some sort of Java problem... What brower? What OS version? Run software update? Re: Switcher woes - Ken Sp. - 05-08-2006 Earthlinks web mail SUCKS!!! I hate it-It is so user un-friendly I use mail app to access it and it is fine--Just set a new user and configure mail app--it wirks wonderfully. If you end up getting the machine back--just delete the user. Mail app is so nice since it interacts with all the iApps You can configure here http://kb.earthlink.net/case.asp?s=st%3D762%2Ce%3D0000000000921533309%2Ck%3D8819%2Csxi%3D2&article=8973 Don't install the ELN Total Access Re: Switcher woes - raz - 05-08-2006 clicking on the subject (in blue 'cause it's a link to the message) should bring up a web page with the message. Works fine for me in Camino and Safari. But, (as noted above) set up Mail. It's far nicer. Re: Switcher woes - jdc - 05-08-2006 you could use boscos screen share (free) so you can see his computer from yours. Re: Switcher woes - JEBB - 05-08-2006 Have him run Cocktail (or Onyx) and repair permissions with Disk Utility. Those sometimes perform miracles. Re: Switcher woes - Kiva - 05-08-2006 tell him that if he uses mail.app, he will no longer 'lose' all his text if he loses his connection, crashes, etc. while composing. He'll like mail.app a lot better.. kiva Re: Switcher woes - bhaveshp - 05-08-2006 IMHO, telling a user who is used to a working web-based email solution to switch to POP based email client is the wrong approach. This is likely a browser incompatability problem. Not knowing Earthlink email, I'd recommend searching Google or Macintouch for other descriptions of this behavior. Another solution may be to recommend Firefox as a more compatible browser than Safari. Re: Switcher woes - bangman - 05-09-2006 I'm guessing that he's in Safari. Try a better browser like Opera. Works wonders for things like this! Re: Switcher woes - chas_m - 05-10-2006 I'm thinking that the pop-up windows blocker is working a little TOO well. Try having him turn that off. |
