Any Lightroom® users? (RAW) - papercup - 05-08-2006 I have been using PS CS2 to process my RAW images, but just downloaded the Lightroom Beta. I like the interface better in Lightroom, but does anyone know if the actual RAW conversion is any different? (both Adobe products, I assume they are using the same RAW engine) RAW users, what's you're poison? Re: Any Lightroom® users? (RAW) - ka jowct - 05-08-2006 I just recently (a week ago) got a camera that produces RAW files and am using Bridge and CS2, so I haven't had the time or inclination to try a different way of processing the images. What do you like better about Lightroom, specifically? Does it give you basically the same settings and options and defaults? Re: Any Lightroom® users? The terms are more intuitive, less "scientific". I bet they produce the same results in the long run, but Lightroom "feels" better. Things like sharpening & hue/saturation are best done as an adjustment layer in PS anyway. Ideally, I think the RAW format needs to be addressed by Adobe like a Smart Object, in which the RAW file is linked but all adjustments/layers & tweaks are done by live-proxy via Photoshop. I can dream. Re: Any Lightroom® users? Sharpening as an adjustment layer? One can only hope that's a feature in Photoshop CS3--it sure isn't now. kajowct, my understanding is that Lightroom does use the same raw conversion engine that Adobe Camera Raw uses, as you suspected. Re: Any Lightroom® users? (RAW) - ka jowct - 05-09-2006 I wonder what Adobe's going to charge for Lightroom. Whatever it is, I suspect that my modest "workflow" will never merit the purchase of a separate product. Although it's a bit scary how fast the RAW images are accumulating during this new camera honeymoon phase. Re: Any Lightroom® users? (RAW) - laarree - 05-09-2006 I've got c. 45 GB of raw files accumulated since getting my new DSLR in early February, and that's with only shooting a couple of days a week. If I was a pro, it would probably work out to over a terabyte every year easily. |
