i need a "coming of age" song for a slideshow - robfilms - 05-09-2006
looking to utilize a "coming of age" song to be used under a birthday slide show for my 13yr old daughter.
i've just finished a 3 month gig which had taken ALL of my time. the video was shown on monday to the client and everyone was thrilled-yeah! but now the wife says, i need to get my talents pointed to getting this slideshow finished by thursday. but my head is still wrapped around my gig. thus my need to post this query while i find a moment to clear my mind and come up with a list of useable songs. obviously, a touch of romance isn't bad. even a sense of time passing might work. any and all genres would be considered, from the american songbook to rock n roll to current.
so far, my best choice is a nat king cole version of L-O-V-E. but it feels a little too-too-standard. i guess i'm looking for something more off-beat, less on point but still effective. and when i get something that work and the family asks, "where did u get that song?", i'll be more than happy to say, those folks over on macresources suggested it!
any and all sharing would be greatly appreciated.

My 13-year old likes anime theme music: Inuyasha, Bleach, One Piece, Naruto. You could sneak in a SpongeBob SquarePants themesong verse or two...

that is why the "right" song is such a gentle touch.
thecaber- i've used for commercial spots "what a wonderful world mixed w/a hawaiian guy singing "somewhere over the rainbow". that was great.
my daughter is not a dancing queen-type. the dire strait cut i used years ago in a breastfeeding spot. that could maybe work. i don't know the enya, power of 7 or ackerman cuts. i'll check them out on itunes.

and I thought of
"Blackbird" -- The Beatles (Harrison)
The "Marathon Infinity Theme Song" is from the Bungie computer game. Power of Seven is a Japanese rock group. It's a fairly rowdy bit of instrumental music.
"Through Heaven's Eyes" -- Brian Stokes Mitchell (from The Prince of Egypt)
Does she like horses? Theme music from "Hidalgo", "Spirit", or "Black Beauty" might work.
"I want to go where the people are" -- Little Mermaid
