Is there a "clone" tool for iPhoto? - cassie - 05-09-2006
In OS 9, I had several image manipulation programs that allowed me to do touch-ups by copying a small area and duplicating (cloning) it to another.
I can't seem to do that in iPhoto. It just dupilcates an area next to my touch-up, not allowing me to choose what I need.
Recommendations including any freebie that I can download or soemthing else I can do that will allow cloning will be appreciated.

No clone stamp in iPhoto, I was looking yesterday.
Did GraphicConverter come bundled with the software package on your Mac? I got it on my PB with Panther, but it's not with my Intel iMac; you don't say what system you're using. It has a clone stamp. Or, it's a shareware program you can download.

You can always download the 30 day free trial of Adobe Elements or Photoshop if you haven't done it in the past.
Or use Gimp

I have GraphicConverter 5.8 but that magic pencil doesn't do it either unless I'm doing something wrong.

I have 4.9, which is older. Do you see anything that looks like an old fashioned rubber stamp down pretty much at the bottom left of the toolbar?

Yep. I tried it and was able to set the size too. Really doesn't work that well when I enlarged (500-1000%) image to do detail work. Better than nothing, though.
I will heed papercup's advice as well.

Forgot to mention I'm using an eMac 1 Ghz, 640 ram, OSX 10.4.6, iPhoto 6 v6.0.2.

If you need to do retouching, why not consider BUYING A RETOUCHING PROGRAM??
Just a thought. Tossed out there. Chew on the concept.
In short: as you've discovered, iPhoto's retouching tool is adequate but primitive and clearly not good enough for what you seem to want to do. I really shouldn't have to recite the obvious candidates: Elements, full-blown Photoshop, Corel Photo-Paint, Aperture, etc.
You may not be aware that iPhoto has the ability to edit photos in external programs. Check the preferences and help file if you need more information, but it works like this: you double-click on a photo in iPhoto, and a third-party program (like Elements) opens the picture. You make your changes and save the photo. iPhoto is updated to reflect the changes.
Works very well.
