A judge sentenced Jeanson James Ancheta, of Downey, California, to 57 months in federal prison. After he ends his term, he will spend three more years on supervised release, and during that time he will have limited access to computers and to the Internet.

The 20-year old Ancheta pled guilty in January to federal criminal charges stemming from his activities creating and spreading viruses and profiting from them.

LONDON (Reuters) - A British computer expert accused by Washington of the world's "biggest military hack of all time" can be extradited to the United States, a court ruled on Wednesday.
Gary McKinnon, 40, was arrested last June following charges by U.S. prosecutors that he illegally accessed 97 government computers -- including Pentagon, U.S. army, navy and NASA systems -- causing $700,000 (376,000 pounds) worth of damage.

He used viri and worms to take over lots of computers and sold their emailing sevices to spammers. He had a list of sevices he could provide by selling access to all of the infected machines. He also sold access to those computers for pop up ads. He could also disable servers by having them all access the same server at the same time.

>>the government took possession of about $60,000 in cash, a car and computers belonging to Ancheta.

Where did a 20 year old get that kind of cash? Did they miss the crystal meth lab at his house?
