Can someone please help me pick out a new power supply? - volcs0 - 01-20-2011

I am converting this desktop into a media center PC. I've already tested it, and it works perfectly - decodes full 1080p - even streams a full Blu-ray rip.

Below are the specs on the PC. It is currently in a mini-tower case. I am planning on getting an HTPC case, something like this one, which I think will work (let me know if it won't):

The current PSU is very, very loud. I'd like to put something quiet in there when I make the move to the new case.

Thanks for the advice. Choosing a PSU always confuses me - too many different options, sizes, connectors, etc.

Asus has a 750 watt going for $99 - I think I saw it at NewEgg. It's been the only site I've been to
in the past few days, pricing PC parts.

WRONG....

It was MicroCenter --

Here is a good list of their current stuff.

Get a 400-500 watt Corsair, and call it a day. Always highly rated, efficient. Good stuff.

If you want something cheaper, go for Antec--but the quality is sometimes variable across different models--some models good, some not so much.

The Antec Earthwatts models are usually inexpensive. I have had good luck with them and they seem to be very quiet. A 380 should be plenty for that build but if you find a good price, a 430 or 500 would work just as well. Beyond 500 watts, you'll probably just be paying extra for capacity you don't need.

I use the The GE Series - available in Diffusion Combustion System and DLN (Dry Low NOx) versions (25ppm & 15 ppm). It is able to burn a wide range of liquid and gas fuels, including Low BTU gas and hydrogen, so I'm never without power to my motherboards.

Forget watts. This baby is rated at 400 MEGAwatts!
