DVI monitor and non DVI tower - kap - 01-21-2011 External monitor: Dell U2311H CPU: HP SlimLine Windows 7 Pro which does not have a DVI port. ===== From a PC tech forum: stanleyPosted: 02/12/2009 re: What is a DVI Port and what can I do with it? FOR THE ULTIMATE ANSWER, IT IS A HIGH RESOLUTION GRAPHICS CARD TYPICALLY FOR GAMING. If your monitor has the DVI port and a VGA port, but your computer doesnt have a DVI card, don't go through the hassle to get a new card for your computer unless you want the high resolution. OTHER RESTRICTIONS MAY APPLY === Is that also the case for me? Re: DVI monitor and non DVI tower - macbeergeek2 - 01-21-2011 Those PC "techs" crack me up. :comp: Wait, was there a serious question in there? Re: DVI monitor and non DVI tower - silvarios - 01-21-2011 Your monitor only has DVI? Re: DVI monitor and non DVI tower - macbeergeek2 - 01-21-2011 Dell U2311H Connectivity: 1 Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP DisplayPort (DP) Video Graphics Array (VGA) What's in the Box: DVI Cable VGA Cable (attached to the monitor) http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=usl=en&cs=19&sku=320-9270 Just use the VGA cable. Re: DVI monitor and non DVI tower - silvarios - 01-21-2011 I just saw the same specs. I'm assuming your HP only has VGA? Since your monitor supports VGA, stick with the VGA connection. It will be fine. Re: DVI monitor and non DVI tower - kap - 01-22-2011 silvarios wrote: Done that already. I suppose it suffices until I get a CPU with a DVI port. DVI or DisplayPort should be better, but a resolution of 1920x1080 should work fine over VGA. |
