Random Thread Alert: Mid-Century Modern sofa appreciation - deckeda - 03-18-2011 Yes, I know, "they're Sofa King great!" ... http://retrorenovation.com/2011/03/11/19affordable-mid-century-modern-sofas-and-couches/ I don't know why sofas interest me, only that they do. It's not like I'm in the market for one. And I'm not even a big fan of '50s/'60s style stuff necessarily. Often too much kitsch, like how Americana is often contrived. At any rate what does appeal to me about mid-century modernism is the sparse lines and particularly for furniture, shorter sides. I don't like sinking down into a sofa; it's like sitting in a bathtub, and you have reach over a high side to get your drink. Re: Random Thread Alert: Mid-Century Modern sofa appreciation - Mr Downtown - 03-18-2011 I searched for years for a contemporary three-cushion sofa, and finally found a Bo Concept Indivi2 model that I liked. There was no Bo Concepts store in Chicago at the time, though, so I bought it in Dallas and had it shipped. Re: Random Thread Alert: Mid-Century Modern sofa appreciation - spacescape - 03-18-2011 Here is our sofa... Recovered it but can't find the darn photo. ![]() Re: Random Thread Alert: Mid-Century Modern sofa appreciation - mrbigstuff - 03-18-2011 I had a great sofa made out of cherry or a similar wood that was beautifully light weight and classic. I liked it because the form was so essential to its function. The support was all fabric straps. Re: Random Thread Alert: Mid-Century Modern sofa appreciation - BernDog - 03-18-2011 Thanks for that link!!! We've been looking for affordable sofas like that for a while. Will have to look into some of those. The worst part about it is we would have to buy one of them sight unseen. We don't have any decent furniture stores around us within hundreds of miles. A sofa seems like it'd be the absolute last thing you'd want to buy without trying it out first. |
