small front tire; large back tire - kap - 06-06-2011 Testing a 700C-25 front tire on my commuter (low end road model) bike while still using the 700C-28 rear tire. On this morning ride to work, I could feel the jarring from the front tire. Is it worthy to upgrade the tires? Re: small front tire; large back tire - mattkime - 06-06-2011 did you check pressure on both tires? pressure could also make the difference Re: small front tire; large back tire - kap - 06-06-2011 Man, I just realized how the post's title came out so wrong. Ugh! I meant "thin" tire versus "thinner" one. Re: small front tire; large back tire - michaelb - 06-06-2011 I won't pretend to know much about this, but wondering why you want a smaller tire on the front? It won't impact wind resistance or speed or rolling resistance much at all, while reducing comfort. I remember an article by sheldon brown analyzing tire width and pressure (this was focused on touring, not racing) and basically there were was all sorts of complicated physics involved, but a larger, wider tire can be lighter and faster than a more narrow one, depending the sidewall. Re: small front tire; large back tire - mrbigstuff - 06-06-2011 seacrest stole my thunder. that is one dope Schwinn. I used to polish the fender on my bike weekly. not to mention I had a bad-ass slick on that bike, too. whitewall. Re: small front tire; large back tire - kap - 06-06-2011 michaelb wrote: I figured a thinner tire with no treads would produce little to no rolling resistance hence faster and smoother ride. Of course, correctly inflated tire would only improve that. Ahem, I have never said I made it though my college physics class. Re: small front tire; large back tire - jdc - 06-06-2011 I try to run 32C when I can -- worth the extra comfort. |
