Connecting to Mac from Windows: interestingly "automatic" - deckeda - 06-17-2011
Messing around here at home. Both a Mac and a PC are running, logged into user accounts with identical username and password.
To connect to the PC (after turning on SMB sharing and enabling the user account on the Mac) I open a Finder window, click the PC's icon and "Connect As" with credentials as expected and I can see stuff.
Going the other way, connecting to the Mac, didn't require any credentials to be entered and I can see my entire user directory on the Mac. Just click Network in an Explorer window and double-click the icon for the Mac.
Is that typical?

...and in Lion, data Migration from a PC will be just like Migrating from another Mac

Ducky.
Just wondering what aspect of this enabled the Mac to not require a password be entered.
On the Mac's file sharing settings for SMB, it appears as if preselecting a user account for inclusion is a requirement. Wondering if that's why.

You can see it -- but can it be modified or read? Just wondering about the ability to toss documents into the trash, etc.
